Overview

Desktop Media Uploader consists of two components:

  1. The WordPress server plugin — installed on your WordPress site (free, open source)
  2. The desktop companion app — optional client software available at wpspeedmeup.com

This policy describes what data each component collects, stores, and transmits.

WordPress Server Plugin

Data Collected

The WordPress plugin itself does not independently collect, store, or transmit any personal data to external servers.

All media files processed by the plugin (uploads, conversions, overwrites) remain on your own WordPress hosting environment. No file content, metadata, or user information is sent to wpspeedmeup.com or any third party by the plugin itself.

Data Stored Locally

The plugin stores the following data within your WordPress database and file system:

  • Plugin configuration settings (selected media sizes, conversion preferences, overwrite rules)
  • WordPress media library entries created or updated during uploads

This data is stored solely on your own server and is subject to your hosting provider’s data practices.

Communication with the Desktop App

When a user connects the desktop companion app to the WordPress plugin, the plugin exposes a local API endpoint on your WordPress installation. Communication occurs directly between the desktop app and your WordPress server. No data is routed through wpspeedmeup.com servers during this communication.

Authentication is handled via WordPress application passwords or equivalent secure credential mechanisms.

Desktop Companion App

Data Collected

The desktop companion app may collect the following data to provide its service:

  • Your WordPress site URL — to establish a connection to the server plugin
  • WordPress credentials / application password — stored locally on your device to authenticate with your WordPress site
  • License information — email address and license key used to validate your companion app subscription
  • Usage analytics (if opted in) — anonymous information about feature usage to help improve the product

License Validation

To validate your companion app license, the app contacts wpspeedmeup.com with your license key and email address. This communication uses HTTPS encryption.

Data NOT Collected

The desktop companion app does not:

  • Transmit your media files to wpspeedmeup.com
  • Collect or store your WordPress passwords on wpspeedmeup.com servers
  • Share your data with advertising networks or third parties for marketing purposes

User Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights under applicable privacy laws (including GDPR, CCPA, and others) to:

  • Access the personal data held about you
  • Request correction or deletion of your data
  • Object to or restrict certain processing
  • Request a copy of your data in a portable format

Data Retention

License-related data (email address, license key) is retained for the duration of your subscription and for a reasonable period afterward for support and accounting purposes.

Third-Party Services

This plugin does not integrate with or send data to any third-party advertising, tracking, or analytics services.

Children’s Privacy

This plugin and companion app are not directed at children under the age of 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version will always be available at wpspeedmeup.com/privacy-policy/. Continued use of the plugin or companion app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
