The 221-image upload test was performed with upload bandwidth limited to 100 Mbps.

Upload test results

• All WordPress media sizes: Desktop Media Uploader completed the upload in 1.63 minutes, compared with 34 minutes using the WordPress Media Library. That is about 20.9 times faster.
• Thumbnails only: Desktop Media Uploader completed the upload in 0.74 minutes, compared with 12 minutes using the WordPress Media Library. That is about 14.2 times faster.

CPU usage note

During the all-media-sizes test, the WordPress Media Library upload used an average of about 35% of the available CPU resources for approximately 34 minutes.

For the tested Hostinger shared hosting plan, this is above the stated 25% CPU usage for 90 seconds resource limit. Sites that upload large image batches through the WordPress Media Library may therefore run into CPU resource limits on this type of hosting plan.
